Knitting Topdown Seamless

Knitting sweater “Topdown Seamless”

My pattern uses a circular needle.
I’m not sure if I need to knit and purl in the round.
Here are the first instructions of the pattern.

Row 1: Knit placing markers…
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: Increase stitches before and after markers
Row 4: Purl

Since the 2nd and 4th rows are purl, should I turn my work and purl, or should I join the ends together and purl in the round?

When you alternate a knit round with a purl round in circular knitting you get garter stitch. But you might work the beginning flat for a few rows. Usually you can tell because it will say ‘rounds’ instead of ‘rows’ but some people just call them rows, even in the round. If it’s a cardigan, then you work it flat all the way through. A link to the actual pattern or a picture would be helpful.

If it doesn’t say to ‘join’ right after then cast on, then work it flat. Read ahead further to see if it does have you work it in the round.

Thank you Sue!

I only see instructions to knit rounds is in the sleeve.

The instructions say place the right sides together then work the three-needle bind off. I’m not familiar with that, so here I go again! The pattern isn’t listed as hard or easy.

I will try to post a picture. It looks easy!

I will try to post a picture.

There’s a video for 3 needle BO on the Tips page, under Finishing I think. It’s easy and beats sewing seams.

So this sounds like a cardigan that’s knit in one piece from the bottom up to the underarms, then you work the fronts and backs separtely then 3 NBO the shoulder seams.

Nope!

It is a short sleeve sweater. I tried to get a photo here, but no luck.

You can view it at c2knits.com

It is the Miyoko topdown seamless sweater.

Thanks again. I will check out the 3 NBO video.

Right I forgot you said it was top down, the 3 NBO threw me as that’s usually used for the shoulder seams. I found it - http://c2knits.com/miyoko.htm

You will knit flat for a while to make the scoop neck, then CO sts for the front neck and that’s when you’ll join to work in the round. I wonder about the 3 needle BO though? Where is that used?

At the end of the Front Shirred Panel instructions, they say place the right sides together, work the three-needle bind off to attach everything together.

The Front Shirred Panel is after the sleeves are bound off.

Thanks again for your quick response.

I’ll keep plugging along!

Oh okay, they’re joining the sections together instead of sewing.
