Knitting through the back loop

Does anyone know of a purpose for this stitch? I want to knit Simply Lovely Lace Socks that were in a recent Interweave mag but I can’t knit through those stitches easily when i get to them on the next row.So I was wondering if there was an alternative to this stitch and/or if I decide to knit it as a reg. stitch if it would look ok. Thanks in advance.

The only reason I know of knitting through the back loop is to twist them and tighten up that particular stitch. There’s certainly no law that says you have to twist it. If you like the way it looks untwisted, then go for it. It might affect your gauge a bit, but I honestly don’t think by all that much.

Thank you so much! That was soooo fast! Thanks again!
