heeheehee! Very probably…
I have never thought about how many stitches i knit until i read this .
So i timed myself using the project i am working on right now which is with DK weight yarn on size 2 needles .
I purled 50 stitches a minute and i Knit 43 stitches per minute.
I enjoy knitting very much and i think that if i knit like that lady in the video clip then i would probably not enjoy it as much .
Just enjoy the end product and your speed will catch up. Don’t put pressure on yourself for that or knitting might start to feel more like a chore than a hobby - and that ain’t fun!
That said, I knit continental only and I’m pretty fast though I’ve never timed myself well, about 40-50 stitches a minute in garter (knit every row), and without having to look down. In fact I’m faster that way.
But again, that took a lot of practice and making myself work in the dark (in car or watching TV) so that I couldn’t cheat by looking down. But it all comes with time and with each project you’ll be a little faster and more experienced.
knitting is not a race.
dont try to knit fast because you will mess up stitches.
I knit continental and I think I’m pretty fast (though I haven’t timed), but when I tried teaching myself how to knit english (with the help of the great videos on this site) so that I could knit two-fisted fair isle I was really frustrated with how slow I was knitting.
I looked around and the most helpful item I found on the topic was a great article by TechKnitter
One of the things she points out is that most fast knitters don’t move that much–if you take a look at that world’s second-fastest knitter, she’s got that thing tucked in her belt that holds her non-working needle still while English knitting. And Mariam Tegels is only moving her fingertips.
Knitpicks has a tutorial on speedknitting with Miriam here, also useful.
So, after focusing a lot on keeping my needles still, trying to sit up straight (I usually slouch/lounge when I knit) and–most importantly, finding a way of feeding the yarn through the fingers on my right hand which felt comfortable, I think this is one of the things really slowing me down at the beginning was constantly re-adjusting the yarn, I sped up my English knit stitch. But I still cannot purl English.
Ditto.
Trying to speed up my knitting would make it more like work to me, not a hobby. If I need something that fast I buy it. :teehee:
What’s the rush? The point is to relax and enjoy it.
I totally agree Mason But having never timed myself knit before , I thought i would give it a go .
Like i said in my previous post , It seems if i knitted like the speed of light then i do not think i would enjoy it as much .
