:?? Hello I’m new here and I’m fairly new to knitting. I make square dish cloths fine butwant to try short rows. I’m dieing to make the round cloths! My pattern says " cast off 4 then knit back. (Almost Lost Wash Cloth Pattern). I don’t know how to read this pattern, have taught myself from videos mostly.I use straight needles for now, want to master all the basics before I try cables. I would be so grateful for any help you may give me! This is a great site by the way- so much information!
ooh, me me me!
newbie/learner here too, but this group/forum went ga-ga for these about 6 weeks ago, and a few of us have made quite a pile of them.

follow the pattern exactly. when it says ‘knit back’ that means you’re done with that row/side and you should turn the work around, and knit the stitches remaining. so for step 1, you get to the end, leave 2 stitches, turn the work around, knit back across all the work you just did (Knit 4, yarn over, knit, leaving 2 stitches) and then turn the work around and start step 2. it DOES NOT mean to knit into the back of the stitch, which was an oopsie-daisy for some. also, you may not need 14 full points (14 full repeats of steps 1-4)… for some yarns/needle sizes/gauges, 12 was enough. for others, 15-16… just depends. you can lay the work flat and see if it’s making a full circle. once it does with NO stretching, you’re done with the points, then it’s time to cast off, and sew the cast-on and bind-off edges together, or if you did a provisonal cast-on, you can expose the live stitches and do a 3 needle bind-off, etc.
hope that helps

Good advice with the benefit of experience. Thanks very much, Xtopher.
Would you please edit your post to remove the beginning of the pattern? We get into copyright problems when all or most of a pttern is quoted here, even if it is freely available.
Thank You So Much! I didn’t know if I was supposed to “wrap” before turning or not, also, the cast off and knit to end then knit back on the last step is what is confused me so! Y’all are great! I’m dieing to try cables, as I want to knit those crocodilly(?) slippers for my sisters and daughters this year. So, so glad I have found this site!
