i am a beginner knitter, and after i cast on and want to make my first stitch, there are 2 connecting strings from needle to needle. please help me! thank you so much for your time.

You mean after you knit the first stitch? If so that is supposed to be there. Just continue across the needle and you’ll end up with them all one one side.
Up at the top of the forum under videos click on “tips” and look at the video “demo of a small project”. It should help you out because it shows from casting on to binding off.
