Knitting Question.

Can someone please clarify this for me. This section reads as follows: from row 6 in chart decrease 1 stitch at each end, 3 stitches from the edges, every 8 row, 5 times.
Thank you.
Evette

Starting on row 6, decrease at each end of the row, 3 sts in from the beginning and the end of row. Dec on rows 6,14,22,30 and 38.

I always wondered when an unidentified decreases is named in a pattern, what is the common method of choosing?
At the moment, I can only think of K2tog or SSK.
Is it all about which way you want the lean?

That’s pretty much how I decide which decrease to use. I like SSK better than SKP.
