# Knitting pattern

The 3rd to 6th rows form pattern.
Continue in pattern as follows:-
Next row: (3rd row of pattern)-(K.1,K.2 tog., y . fwd., K.2) 5 times. Knit to end.
Continue in pattern in this manner working 1 repeat less of pattern on every following 6th row until all St’s. are in St.st.
Please can someone explain this to me .
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum!
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
The stitches in parentheses are repeated 5 times for the row given in the pattern:
(K.1,K.2 tog., y . fwd., K.2), (K.1,K.2 tog., y . fwd., K.2), etc until you’ve worked 5 repeats total then knit to the end of row.

If you call this row, row 1 then you will repeat the pattern on rows 1,7,13,19 and 25.
On row 1 work the repeat 5 times then knit to the end. (This is the row that’s given in the pattern.)
On row 7 work the repeat 4 times then knit to the end.
On row 13 work the repeat 3 times then knit to the end.
On row 19 work the repeat 2 times then knit to the end.
On row 25 work the repeat 1 time then knit to the end.
On row 31 all the sts will be worked in stockinette stitch.

If that’s not your question then just let us know.

Hi

Thank you for your help. Think I got it now lol…Pattern name. Peter Pan Darling P253.

It’s an old pattern . Am doing the lemon one .

Please can someone help after row 6th on Right Front. Says next row.

Do I start after next row with Row 1 or row 4 ??

Thank you

From now on until the directions change, the pattern is a repeat of rows 3-6. Just before the Next row directions, the pattern tells you “The the 3rd to 6th rows form the pattern.”
Where the pattern says, “Next row: (3rd row of pattern)…” work row 3 of the pattern. Continue with rows 4-6 and then repeat from rows 3-6. (Row 5 in this repeat is going to be the same as row 1.)

Right ok thank you so much.

Please can you explain reversing for Left front?

Thank you.

The two fronts should be mirror images of each other. On the right front 3sts are cast off at the beginning of a WS (wrong side) row. For the left front, cast off 3sts at the beg of a RS (right side) row then knit to the end of row. This cast off is the armhole edge.
It’s a good idea to mark the front edge at this point.
Turn and work the WS row. With the RS (row 1) facing you, K1, k2tog, work across to the last 2sts, k2tog.
Purl row 2.
For row 3 K1, k3tog, work across to the end.
Purl row 4.
Repeat the last 4 rows twice more. Then continue with the directions to dec at the front and armhole edges.

If you’ve knit the right front with k2tog at both the armhole and front edges then continue to do so on the left front. If you haven’t worked the right front yet you could consider the slant of the decrease and use ssk for one of the edges.

Thank you.

Am sorry I don’t understand the rows to work after cast off 3sts ?? Please

Have you knit the Right Front yet? The stitch placement is going to be similar but reversed in the sense that with the public side or RS facing, the decreases at the beginning of the row on the Right Front will be at the end of the row on the Left Front. The decreases at the end of row on the Right Front will be at the beginning of row on the Left Front.

For the Left Front:
Call cast off 3sts at the beg of a RS (right side) row and knit to the end of row then turn to the WS. This cast off is the armhole edge.
It’s a good idea to mark the front edge at this point.

Next row: work the WS row and turn.
Row 1: The RS is again facing you. K1, k2tog, work across to the last 2sts, k2tog.
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: K1, k3tog, work across to the end.
Row 4: Purl.
Repeat the last 4 rows twice more. Then continue with the directions to dec at the front and armhole edges.

See if this helps. Sometimes it also helps to lay out the right front so that you can see where the decreases are and work the left front as a mirror image.

Please can you help. Which rows am I doing for Left front after the 1st six rows. I am confused ! Thank you

Have you already knit the right front? The left front is going to continue in much the same way.

Work rows 1-6 for the left front. Keep repeating this pattern stitch (rows 1-6) until you reach the length measurement for your size (5 1/2" for the smallest size). Once you cast off for the armholes the pattern stitch changes to all stockinette (knit on the RS rows, purl on the WS rows) so you don’t have to be concerned about maintaining the previous stitch pattern rows 1-6.

Cast off for the armholes (put a marker on the front edge), knit across the row, turn and purl back. Work the Right Front rows 1-4 under Shape Armhole and Front with the change that the position of the decreases is reversed for the Left Front (see my post #12 above).
Work rows 1-4 twice more. That’ll be rows 5-12,
Now decrease one stitch at the front edge on rows 13,17,21,25,29,33,37 and 41 for the smallest size.
Decrease one stitch (a k2tog now not the k3tog you had been working at the armhole edge) at the armhole edge on rows 2,4,6,8,10,12,14 and so on until 2sts remain.

Yes I have done Right side absolutely fine. Just can’t get me head around the left. Thank you so much for explaining and writing it for me.

See how it goes and if it’s not looking correct, come back and we’ll try to make it right. It may help to lay out the right front and keep checking with that to see that you’re getting the mirror image. The two sides should match up if you lay the left on top of the right with the public sides facing.
This is probably a good point to add in a lifeline just in case.

Me again,

Am I doing 1-6 rows on left pattern or Right pattern? Please

The Right Front gives you the pattern rows 1-6 that are used on the Right Front. (The row repeat is rows 3-6.)
The Left Front gives you similar pattern rows 1-6 to be used on the Left Front. The difference is essentially in the slant of the decreases, either k2tog or skpsso. (The row repeat isn’t stated but it should again be rows 3-6.)

OK so I decrease on 3 and 5 at the end of a row?

Thank you

With the RS (row 1) facing you, K1, k2tog, work across to the last 2sts, k2tog.
Purl row 2.
For row 3 K1, k3tog, work across to the end.
Purl row 4.
Repeat the last 4 rows twice more.

For the rows above? After you repeat rows 1-4 twice you’ll be working in stockinette stitch. You’ll no longer be following the decreases in rows 1 and 3. The pattern is giving you new instructions for the decrease rows.
If you want to call the next row, row 5 then yes, for the Left Front decrease at end of the row (the front edge) on row 5 and then on rows 9,13,17,21,25,29,33 and 37 (for size small).
You’ll be working the decrease at the armhole edge every other row. If you want all the decreases on the knit side, you could change them to rows 9,11,13,15,17,19 etc.
