knitting on circular needles

Help please - just got my first circular needles - knitting beanie hat,
all went well until I tried to decrease - I am sure you will know the problem I encountered - looked it up and it seem that I must transfer to dpn - is it possible, however, to continue on a larger circular needle is so what size - I am using 4mmx40
would be so grateful for simple instruction on what to do.
many thanks

Welcome to the forum and congrats on starting you first in-the-round project!
If you don’t want to switch to dpns you could use a longer circular needle or 2 circular needles.
The longer needle (100cm is good) works for magic loop. You have the hat partially knit already so you would begin by knitting stitches onto the long circular then pulling out the cable as in the video.

It helps if you’re using 2 circular needles to have 2 different types or colors of needle just as a reminder of which needle to work with. If you don’t have 2 different you can still work this technique just be careful to use the 2 ends of the same circular as you knit.

You might be able to use a technique called “traveling loop”. (It’s a bit of a misnomer because the loop doesn’t actually travel!)

Thank you all for ideas
