Knitting olympics...excited?

I am so excited about the knitting olympics…and to think I almost didn’t sign up! I’m doing the irish hiking scarf–I’ve never done cables (which look easy now that I’ve seen the video) but it’s really the length that is my challenge. I knit so slowly sometimes–I figure between a new technique and something lengthy…it counts as challenging!

Just wondered if anyone else is as giddy as I am about the KO?

I was hoping that my KP order would arrive so I could join the knitting olympics, but alas it did not. I was so disappointed… :help:

Even with all my troubles trying to get set up in the starting gate {two topics here in “help” for my felting, and a complete synopsis in my blog}, I can’t wait for tomorrow… frantically knitting off the last of my Skacel sweater when I should be napping before work!

OMGosh! The Olympics starts tommorrow!? AH!!! I was busy cleaning my craft/school room all day! With a dear friend. You know your close if you can show her your junk. ANYWAY! AAAHHHHHHH!!! I gotta go get my knitting bag together! What time does the opening ceremony start anyway?

I was wondering the same thing…

I’m really scared about this… I have to get a 3’ x 5’ lap blanket done in that time… and I’m going to be starting Algebra I, Spanish I B, and I’ll be doing the PSSA testing :help:

Ohh this is going to be a challenge for me…

I’m eastern standard time and it starts at 8:30 pm I believe.

Boy am I excited! I’ve been wanting to start this project all week long!

I am very excited! My pattern arrived today, so I’m all set to begin (yarn came on Tuesday and I’ve done my gauge swatch). The only thing is that I haven’t finished dh’s sweater for our anniversary tomorrow. I really wanted to be done with it by the time I cast on my KO socks (er, not to mention to be able to actually give him a finished sweater…).

I believe that the games begin at 8:00 (2:00 EST).

Well, it’s my birthday party tomorrow, so I won’t be casting on until Sunday night…

(it’s already the 10th here)

Yep. Oh, and for folks with Yahoo accounts, you can add the Olympic pull-down menu for your toolbar. Full schedule is available there, as well as medal count (unfortunately, they would not listen to my pleas to include a row counter).

Excited?

Who’s excited? I am the picture of calm.

Dh just checked for me and NBC is showing it at 8:00 pm and it notes that it’s delayed…so it’s not the actual start time–so I guess that means it’ll finish up a little later here too…

The yarn for my daughters birthday afghan is being SHIPPED tomorrow (even though I ordered it last WEEK!), so I emailed Stephanie and switched mine to 2 pair sof FT clogs. sigh

I am still really stoked about it, and have to go grab yarn for my clogs tomorrow! (Already have yarn for dh’s clogs)

:frowning: Everyone is getting there yarn late and having to make last minute adjustments!! :crying:

My last minute adjustment is because I have a show that I have needs for… So… I’ll be doing several projects! Unfortunately I had to start on them already, so I guess I am disqualified…

Hmm I wonder if there was a run on online yarn stores in the last few weeks that is delaying people’s shipments.

In any case, I feel badly for everyone who has had to change their plans. Personally I am looking at this as a semi-structured way to see how much I really can finish in a defined amount of time. Although I will admit that two things have been cast on already so I didn’t have several days of nothing on the needles.

And I believe that Stephanie decreed official cast-on time was 2pm EST regardless of when the opening ceremony was actually broadcast at your location (this is 8pm Turin time - when the opening ceremonies start).

Good luck and safe knitting! :XX: :XX: :XX:

I’m excited. And nervous. I never did do the swatch, guess I’ll try and do that in the morning. Eeek!

I’m swatching this morning too!

I keep having to remind myself that I can’t start until the torch is LIT not just when the opening ceremonies begin. I can’t wait, though! I am also very giddy about beginning.

I believe that the official start time in Torino is in about 2 hours (I believe it starts at 6:00 pm their time) and everything is tape delayed around the world for evening viewing. (Gosh this might save NBC from making a huge faux pas like in Athens when they showed the “naked people” (rolling eyes) ) Which makes me wonder if the torch is already lit for real in Italy couldn’t I start knitting during the opening ceremonies even before the torch is lit tape delayed?

glad to see someone else is giddy too…as someone posted earlier, I think that it states somewhere that the official start time is 2 pm EST, regardless of when it’s being broacast.

You all are correct about the start time. Here’s the 411 taken from January 17, 2006:

Here’s the executive decision. The Opening Ceremonies start at 8pm Torino time. Torino is six hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time, which would mean starting at 2pm in the afternoon.
How about we agree on 2pm February 10th, no matter where you are? (Does that help those of you without a tv?

I’m so excited. :cheering: Only five hours to go for me.
