Knitting looks wavy?

Hello! I just started knitting recently and I’m working on my first scarf. It looks wavy, as if the stitches are bigger in some parts and smaller in others. I seem to have trouble keeping the tightness of the rows consistent - could this be the problem? Is there a way I can avoid doing this, or will it just get better with practice?

The pattern is knit 5, purl 5, knit 5 for 8 rows then switch (sorry, I don’t know the proper abbreviations yet).

Thanks!

Comes with practice, largely.

There are quite a few things you can do (that’s a PDF file) if you specifically want to work on your tension and gauge problems, but that’s only if you really want to. Otherwise it’ll basically work itself out the more you knit.

I like Techknitter’s tips.
