Knitting lengths and adding border for aBlanket

I have knitted 6 Scarf lengths, some w cables and various patterns. I want to join together for baby blanket but think it needs a border to give it weight. How can I do this?

Hello

If you can find a boarder pattern you like you can just pick up and knit along your edge. You would do this after all your sections have been seamed together. You would need to use needles long enough to reach along the edge, a long circular needle used flat for example.

Or you can knit boarders separately and seam them on.

It’s also possible to add a small pretty edge like a decorative bind off by picking up on the edge of the blanket and binding off right away. Or adding an applied edging.

It depends what you have in mind but it is possible.

If you know what sort of thing you want people here can probably offer more ideas.

I knit plain baby blankets but use the same border for them all. It knits over about 16 stitches and usually I knit about 3 yards of it. It’s a triangular border and if you would like the pattern let me know. You just sew it on easing it around the corners. I usually knit these on holiday so easy to take on plane with a small wooden circular needle in a plastic container and 1 ball of wool. I ve got about 3 or 4 in the cupboard ready in case.

The pattern was a free one in prima magazine when Prince williams first baby born. It’s a bit creased, old and weathered but I am happy to share in its entirety if you want. I have attached the pattern section but the photo is faded so you can’t see a professional finish. I have shown you my knitted version as I keep in pink usually, blue so I don’t get caught out
