Knitting In Ends

What is the best needle/tool to use when weaving in ends? I made a mistake in the title of the thread, sorry.

Knitting in ends?..
knitting needles
This would be for a knitted join.

Or weaving in ends?
crochet hook or tapestry needle.
Depends on the size of the item you are weaving the ends in on. Smaller items with tighter weave is often easier with a needle, whereas a larger item with looser weave is amenable to either.

I’m assuming you mean weaving in the ends? If so then I use a yarn needle.

I use a large tapestry needle with a bent end, weave in on the back side in a duplicate stitch for several stitches then thread back in the same direction for a few stitches to secure the end.

Here’s the knitty article I still use for weaving in ends.

Where do you find these?

Where to get the bent tapestry needles? I got mine at JoAnn, I think I’ve seen them at Walmart, probably most stores that carry yarn would have them. You can also get yarn needles that aren’t bent. So you know what we’re talking about: https://www.google.com/#q=tapestry+needles

I looked today at Walmart and JoAnn for the bent needle and couldn’t find them. What department would they be in?

If they are at Walmart they should be where they have crochet hooks and knitting needles. Same in JoAnn. If you ask, someone might know whether they carry them. Walmart should have the plain, no bent tip ones, stores like Fred Meyer might. You can order them online from www.knitpicks.com and other sites that sell yarn and associated gizmos.

Any yarn needle will do if you can’t find them. I only have straight needles and they work fine. Been meaning to try the bent ones though. My LYS carries them.

I weave in the ends like Charlotte, but when I go back in the same direction I split the yarn for a few stitches.

I have a bent darning needle from my mother’s ancient collection. I did check at KnitPicks to see what they might have, but didn’t see one. I do believe that quilting stores carry them also.
but a straight darning needle with a blunt end works well too.

I like to use tapestry needles with large eyes because I’m old. It’s getting hard to thread a needle. I get mine from Walmart. I use the type for plastic canvas. They have large eyes and are blunt on the bottom. I weave mine in and out, then turn and go back over what I’ve already done. You can stitch into the yarn splitting the ply’s to anchor it in place better. I like to do my weaving vertically rather than horizontally. This prevents it from coming out when you stretch it. I like metal needles, not plastic. If you pull too hard on them, you’ll split the eye of the plastic needle. You can also get a plastic canvas yarn needle threader. I hung a pair of folding scissors around my neck with a cord and had the threader attached to it so it was always handy.
