Knitting horizontal "stitch"

I copied it and drug it over here.

Good evening,

I jumped on the bandwagon and am knitting that “Quickie baby sweater”

So on Row 9 where it says “Insert needle under next horizontal loop below (between stitches) and knit this stitch”, what does it mean?

I have three different theories.

I’m guessing that they mean a M1 increase?

Try watching the video on this page for M1L (make one left). The video link is about half way down on the right side.

My vote is for M1 increase, also.

Could that also be accomplished by just “picking up a stitch” in that stitch?

I think you’ll get a hole if you do that. The M1 increase is nice and tight.

Ingrid You are right! HA! I’ve already done two rows like that, and it looks really sharp in combo with the other stitches so I’m gona keep it. heh, but will consider changing it “right” next time. Thanks for helping me out.

my make 1 increase just made a straight line of stitches, not an fat little bump like in the picture on the sweater … I have tried every way I can think of to get the bump and so far the best one is to “dip” down and pick up the whole stitch below … but it STILL DOES NOT look like the picture… anyone who is using a make1 … is yours coming out like the picture??

i did that sweater and used the M1 increase.

Ecuzzacrea, Did you know you were going to create a revolution with that cute little sweater?

Oh and my ooops of picking up a stitch instead of M1, I think it is also making it larger then it should be. I may be adding stitches under the arm and on the upper bodice.
