Knitting Help
Hello
You might need to expand on your question to get the best help.
Is it a colour circle you want to make within the square (a 2 colour intarsia?) or a circle of a different stitch pattern (lace perhaps?), or a circle made from the centre outwards from a particular pattern for something?
If you have a pattern you’re working from it would be a great help to know which pattern it is.
If you have an image of something you are trying to design for yourself, a pic of how it should look, a Web image or a link to an idea you’ve seen, that would help too.
I’m sure someone will be able to offer some advice.
It is a different colour circle in the square, I have tried intarsia but not working out very well for me. Here is a picture.
Although you could carry the background colors across the circle design, intarsia is the neatest way to work this. Stacy has a good video for a heart but the same technique applies of course.

Is the photo your knitting or the pattern you want to follow? It looks quite nice, maybe a little closer join at the color switch but overall very pretty.
This is another way to do it if intarsia isn’t working out:
Thanks for the pic, it’s so much easier to have ideas when one knows what to think of.
What is it about the intarsia that you don’t like or isn’t working how you would hope?
Do you have a chart for the circle so you know where to change colour?
If the pic is not yours, maybe the circle itself is coming out more oval than circle?? I’m just guessing at possibilities. You can make a chart which works for your own knitting gauge and we can link you to some resources for this, if that’s the problem.
The photo is a pattern I want to follow.
You could design the size you want using knitter’s graph paper in the same gauge as your yarn and needles.
Here’s one site that will scale the paper for you to print out but there are others if you search knitter’s graph paper.

What is the circle in a square for? A coaster, a blanket square, a wash cloth…?
Blanket square
OK so unless you’re going to line the blanket, intarsia is a neater way to go. The pattern or recipe kushami linked to is an intriguing way to work this, from the center out.
Not actually helpful, but I tracked the square back to the designer, India Tresselt. It was part of a blanket project she was working on, and she just knit all of the squares as she thought them up, but didn’t write up any of the patterns. The blanket looks spectacular! 5x5" squares, no two alike, and using a variety of techniques.
Luckily, that’s a really nice photo of the square, so you can even count rows/ridges and stitches to come up with your own pattern.
