Knitting Help Invades Knaperville, Illinois!

LOL…this was me ---->

Except with pretty long hair.

I am up for a regular get together. I think once a month would be great. And it would be so much fun to go to different places! It is so funny…it was like we have known each other forever.

I REALLY want to go to that knitting retreat in Wisc! EVERYONE should check out Dee’s site it sounds like so much fun www.kneatles.com I am working on figuring out how I can butter up my dh so he will let me go! Wouldn’t it be fun if we can meet a bunch more KHers on the retreat!

I would really love to have all of you there because you were such a nice, fun and welcoming group.

Yesterday was a very good day, I had 5 more people sign up so now I am half way to the limit :cheering: I’ll be probably be closing registration by September 1st so if you are considering attending do not delay too much longer.

Too Funny! I hope you don’t mind the endless teasing – I think I’m jealous 'cause yer so skinny!

:cheering: Yay! I’ve been thinking of you ladies just about every day for weeks now, thinking, “that’s so neat that they’re all getting together on the 23rd!” It’s so great that you got together (most of you) and that you’ll be doing it again! :happydance:

You look like great pals, and sound like you had such fun!
Hey, let’s see some more pics!!!
We’re all living vicariously through you, you know!! We all wish we could have been there too!

Oh yes, and what’s this about a new long-tail cast-on? Do tell, this sounds cool! Probably too complicated to explain, right?

Well the technique is not really new, but I continually saw the frustration that some of my new to knitting students were having when they were asked to cast on a large number of stitches using the Long Tail Method so I did a bit of poking around and found this method that eliminates the whole issue.

Using two balls of yarn (or the inside and outside of a skein as dotmom did) and tie the two yarns together in a loose knot leaving a 6-8 inch tail.

Pop this “knot” on top of your needle and begin your long tail cast on but do not count this “knot stitch” as a stitch, it will be slipped off the needle when you knit up to it on the first row.

After you have cast on the number of stitches you need then cut one of the two strands you are using, (in dotmom’s case the outside yarn strand) leaving a 6-8 inch tail and then proceed to knit with the yarn still connected to the skein.

Of course this does leave you with two extra tails to weave in one on one end and two on the other but sometimes I think you have to give up a bit to gain something else.

I hope I made this sound clear as a bell and not clear as mud!

AND, i do have to say, I in NO WAY brought EVERYTHING of mine to KK’s house to spread on her coffee table. Just the barest of essentials… in 4 bags!

Here’s my pictures!!! Our uber-cute waiter switched something on my camera when he took the pic of all of use, so I had to crop it to be a reasonable size. I can’t wait to get together again!

*Picture #1 had an unflattering angle of KK’s butt, and I think i’ve posted enough of those on here…

You guys make such a cute group! :inlove: I hope you keep getting together and documenting it so the rest of us can live vicariously through you!

Did you mean unflattering…or FATTERING??? :roflhard:

WE ARE JUST TOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!

I love that swift & ball winder! Gotta find a set on sale…gotta find a set on sale…gotta find a set on sale!!!

I just noticed that Kelly spelled Naperville with a “K”.

:roflhard:

Am I slow or what?

knoooooo!!! You’ve knever left me with the knotion that you were knonsensical or knutty. Knay! I have knoted that you have quite the knimble knoggin!

It’s knit-latin!! :cheering:

kno, KK is just a little knuts.

Im just knominally knuts.

And her real name is Elly!

Um…kno its knot. :expressionless:

Actually, I think she probably just took up knitting because it starts with a K. Yeah … I’m sure of it. I bet she has a big wooden K on her living room wall, too, and a “K” in cursive that she transfers from sweater to sweater in the winter time.

Thanks for the pics, Hilde!! We had a good time, didn’t we??

She would have named the puppy Khowie, but he doesn’t look like he’s from the middle east! :rofling:

I LOVED LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY!! Now I WANT a cursive sweater K!!

You ladies are SO silly!
