Knitting guilds?

Isn’t there a specific organization, like Knitting Guild of America or something like that? Which would involve paying dues?

I just located another local knitter on line, and she and I are going to try to meet up and hopefully organize a knitting group, but in naming it, I don’t want to imply any association (yet) with a national group if we’re not paying dues, or step on any toes otherwise. Although if it grows, in the future I suppose we could consider membership into a specific organization.

And obviously “Southeast Iowa Stitch & Bitch” is out of the question. :rollseyes: Plus I’d be afraid that the “bitch” part would turn off any very experienced but perhaps rather conservative older ladies who would be very helpful in instruction.

Also those of you who belong to a STITCH AND BITCH (there, I said it, neener neener), knitting guild, or other such group, how often do you get together? Weekly? Every other week? Monthly? Randomly? When the stars align properly?

Well I did find a little information. Individual member ship is $27 a year, or $51 for two years.

My guild meets the 2nd and 4th Tues of every month. The 2nd Tues is our official “meeting”, the 4th is at Barnes and Noble just knitting and chatting

We have one day that we are meeting weekly (Mondays) and we are trying to get every other Thursday going. The Atlanta SnB is a lot bigger than the southsidesnb group (my group) and they meet several times a week–they sort of have mini groups within their SnB–they cover a pretty big area.

Atlanta has a knitting guild that’s supposed to be awesome–I keep intending to join–I believe they only meet once a month. If you google Atlanta Knitting Guild, you’ll find it. maybe that’ll give some good info.

Our group meets every thursday from 4-6pm.
We started as a group to teach elementary school children to knit.
We didn’t get a big turn out of kids, so we kept it going for the parents.
We knit for charity at our meetings.

Be careful with using the words “Stitch and Bitch”. There is a company in NY that’s making life hell for a lot of group owners on Yahoo and such. You can find out some of the details on Debbie Stohler’s {sp?} website.

Yeah but its fun to piss them off anyway. I mean how dare they try to incorporate that word. Like FOX trying to sue over “Fair and balanced”

In Oregon there is a knitting Guild that meets the first Thursday of the month. Its supposed to be one of the oldest and well establish in the west or something. I keep meaning to go. Its way out in Tigard though which is only about a half hour drive but its a half hour on the highway from hell. I was a memeber of the National Kintting guild and I got Cast On magazine which is OK but its no interweave press. They advertise for their events A LOT. And I would love to go to one of thier fancy conventions but its super expemsive. And they have the master knitters program. I’ve never done it. Not sure if its fun or not. SOunds like a lot of work. Thats my .02

If the master knitters program is anything like the one here in Canada.
It’s alot of work, and isn’t cheap to do. I did it when I worked in a woolshop and did knitting for a living, it looked good on a resume. Now if someone hears about it, it’s like what???
Basically you are given challanges , you do them and mail them to the program to grade.
The hardest one I did was a 12x12 square that had to contain seed stitch, ribbing and basket weave in it, by short rowing , adding stitches and decreasing to maintain the squares size. It was a real pain.
You do learn alot but to be honest I don’t design much so I really haven’t used alot of the more advanced skills to often.
