Knitting gauge changed

Making a top down sweater for size 10 child. Works flat until you join at underarms. I was getting 1 stitch short of gauge (27 instead of 28/4”) but one I began working in the round, I’m now getting 24/4”. So the sweater is going to be have 5” of positive ease. Should I rip back to where it joins in the round and eliminate the cast on underarm stitches and continue with the same needle size , OR rip back to underarm and continue with smaller needle? It’s a capped sleeve tunic. She’s only 26.5” chest so I’m afraid it’ll be way too loose on her

Can you tell us the name of the pattern and provide a link?

It’s a paid for pattern on Ravelry… Quaintly By Kelly Brooker done in fingering weight organic cotton.

Welcome to the forum!

It might help to work a swatch in the round to make sure you have the size needles that will give you the size sweater you want. Here’s an easy way to swatch in the round:

Once you determine the needle you need, yes, rip back to the underarm, don’t delete the underarm sts. That’ll only tighten the sleeve cap. Continue with the body.

Thanks for your input. I’ve ripped back to armholes and am proceeding with 1 size smaller. I’m sure it’ll be fine. :ok_hand:t3:
