Knitting frustration

Having problems interpreting another pattern. I searched the web for any errata before reaching out to the knitting family :aww: Also re-stepped my actions four times and still came out the same way STUCK.
I’m working my on 6 mos. size. It’s a top down baby vest I get stuck on row 1. I continue to have 4 left over stitches - what am I doing wrong?

Pattern:

Cast on 22, (26, 28), at the same time, placing markers as follows:

6month: 4sts, place marker, 3sts, place marker, 8sts, place marker, 3sts, place marker, 4sts

Knit 2 rows

Increase for yolk:

Row 1: (knit to marker, m1, slip marker, k1, m1), repeat ( ) 3 times more.

Row 2: k1, purl to last st, k1

repeat rows 1&2 until there are 54, (66, 76) sts, ending with a row 1.

Here’s the link as we’ll.

Did you cast on 22st and are you making the first size?
What kind of increase are you doing? You have 4sts left on the needle unworked or 4 sts to go on the pattern instruction but no sts on the needle?

Yes, I cast on 22 for 6 months. I am increasing via picking up middle bar. I have 4 stitches unworked because once I get to the end that’s a 3 repeat. Then I’m left with 4 us worked.

6th attempted. I did the bar increase and still same results. I don’t want to give up but I’m stalled.

If I’m understanding correctly, you have 4 sts left on your needle after the last m1? The pattern omits that you have to continue knitting to the end of the row. That’s a cute pattern.

6month: 4sts, place marker, 3sts, place marker, 8sts, place marker, 3sts, place marker, 4sts

Row 1: (knit to marker, m1, slip marker, k1, m1), repeat ( ) 3 times more.

It looks like your stitch markers set off 5 sets of stitches (highlighted in pink) . Row 1 only has instructions for the 1st 4 sets. Could it be the missing instruction is to knit 4 sts?

Thanks so much…I did knit the remaining 4 stitches at first but didn’t continue because I was nervous it would change the patterns look.

Thank you.

If I read the pattern correctly, I believe the 8sts are for the back, the 4 st sections are the fronts, and the 3 sts part are the underarms.

It’s a cute little sweater! Have fun working it. We’d love to see a photo of it when it’s done, if you’d like to share one!

I hope to send a pic!
