"Knitting for Baby" Book -- Baby Booties Pattern H

I’m trying to do the Beginner Booties from the book KNITTING FOR BABY by Melanie Falick and Kristin Nicholas. Is anyone familiar with this pattern?

I’ve done the first part called “Knit the ankle” with no problems. The second part, however, is titled “Increase to begin foot shaping.” The ankle part of the directions ended on row 27.

Then the foot shaping next step starts with rows 1 and 2. This doesn’t make any sense to me. Is the pattern starting over with row numbers or am I supposed to somehow go all the way back to rows 1 and 2? If it’s the latter, how does that work?

Thanks,
Lisa

Hi LisaPS!

It’s really common for patterns to start all over with the row numbering, in the middle of the work. It’s easier to keep track of your “new” rows 1 and up, then calling it “Row 56” or whatever. Patterns can do this at any time, it’s just beginning a new set of instructions. If they wanted you do go back to the beginning, they should be more clear than just saying “Row 1,” definitely.
Unless you’re working on a separate piece that will later be attached (it should be obvious), then it sounds like you should continue where your at. I don’t know the pattern, but this is my “general” input.

Good luck!
Amy

Thanks! I asked a friend more experienced than me to look at the directions and you’ve got it right. They just started the numbering over.

I’m moving right along now, being very proud of myself for increasing and decreasing around the foot for the bootie. It’s going to be very cute, I think.

Thanks again,

Lisa

Oooh - I have that book! I just started the diaper tote, which I’m going to use as a knitting project bag (until I get to actually use it as a diaper tote!)
