Knitting circular patterns on strait needles.

I am knitting a small tube to hold pool ques. The problem is with it being so thin it is easier for to use strait needles rather than DSN. The problem that I am encountering is decreasing the stitches that will allow me to close the seam and create a closed bottom.

Are you knitting this in the round on straights? How many sts?
Could you knit onto 3 double pointed needles and then narrow the tube the way you would decrease the top of a beanie? Two circular needles would work for this as well or you could bind off and sew a seam at the bottom.
