Knitting change

I would like to make this market tote bag that calls for circular needles us5 and us9 .made withdrawal cotton yarn…comfy cotton by lion brand I want to use this fibra natura 100 percent hemp yarn 4 worsted .have no idea what needle size I should start with…please help

Welcome to KH!
Can you give us the name of the pattern and designer?
It may be an open mesh so may call for larger needles than you would think. Comfy Cotton and Fibra Natura hemp are comparable worsted weights but you’ll have to give the yarn a try with your needles. Maybe start with a swatch on US9 needles and see if you like the look of the knit fabric. Then you can adjust needle size from there if necessary.

The pattern should tell you which needles to use when. It’s common with totes to work the bottom with a smaller needle for a firmer fabric, and the sides with a larger needle to get an openwork effect, and then maybe the smaller needle for a firmer top and handles?

Maybe this pattern? https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/farmers-market-tote-11

Ty for your suggestions.it is that bag.you sugg.on ravelry.i wanted to do.the knit McKinley.
When I got to the end of the bottom of the bag I couldn’t finish the corner.i will do a swatch and change my needle size ty

The instructions begin:

  • CO 3 stitches with smaller needles (US 5, 375mm).
    • Row 1: kfb, k1, kfb.
    • Row 2: knit all sts.

Gauge won’t be critical here. The important thing is to get a fabric you like.
