Knitting buttonhole

Hello! Could someone decipher this line for me:
knit the buttonhole at beg of WS: k2, bind off 3, k to end (using backward loop method co 3 sts on the return row)

I’ve gone as far as “bind off 3” but don’t know if the info in the parenthesis is to be done at the end of knitting that row? And when where is this buttonhole? Thanks!

The buttonhole will be where you bound off the 3 stitches. Finish the row after the bind off, and when you work back on the next row, cast on 3 stitches where you bound off on the previous row.

I’d suggest knitting cast-on or cable cast-on rather than backward loop, though. They produce a tighter edge.

Hi and welcome.

The buttonhole will be where you bind off 3 stitches. Knit to the end of the row. Turn. Work to the point where you bound off 3 stitches, then cast on 3 stitches, work to the end of the row. Your buttonhole will be there. If you check the Free Videos I’m pretty sure there is a video about buttonholes. HTH

LOL I learned it here!

Thanks for your help! Where would I be without you guys!

Much appreciated GG! Love your handle.
