Knitting both sleeves at the same time

I cast on both sleeves each having their own ball of yarn. I worked the rib after the cast and ended up with my working yarn on the inside with one of the sleeves rather than at the end . Confusing I know. I am sure it is some silly thing that I am doing, but I don’t know what. I would appreciate any ideas. It shouldn’t be this hard.

If I understand correctly, it may just mean that you haven’t completed a full row on both sleeves. You’ve stopped after working a row of ribbing on one sleeve and not the other.
Count the rows on each sleeve and you should find one has a an extra row. One way to make sure you work both sleeves is to pin the two together. It serves as a reminder to work both sleeves before turning or putting down the knitting.
