Knitting baby hat on double needles

pattern says cast on 60 stitches on size 6 dpn and than it says to join and purl round 1…How do you join using just two needles. I know how to do that with three or 4 needles but the instructions says size 6 and 8 dpn needles but not how many and the instructions do not say to split the 60 stitches into three’s of 20 stitches So how can I join just using two dpn needles I am soooo confused.

If you are using dpns, you should have more than two needles. DPNS come in sets of 4 or 5.

Again, dpns come in sets and you use more than two of the needles at a time. The two sizes you have been given (6 and 8) will be used at different points in the pattern. You aren’t using ONE size 6 needle and ONE size 8 needle.

When using dpns to knit in the round, you have to split the sts up amongst the needles. The directions don’t say this because it is understood.

What’s your pattern? Can you link to it? Knitting in The Round Straight This video shows how to knit in the round on two needles but not how to leave the bottom open. My best guess is that for your pattern the division of stitches onto however many needles you want to use is left up to you to decide.

OKAY did not know that it was understood…I am new at knitting this year and have used 4 needles but pattern did explain to divide stitches this one didn’t so I thought I was not suppose to separate…it makes sense but I was always taught not to assume as it makes you know what of us. Okay I can do that thank you soooo much for your help. I was going to do that if I could not get an answer but glad to have you guys out there for help thank you sooo much. Beverly
