Knitting and Purling

My pattern for a blanket reads:

“Row 1: K5. *K15. P3. Rep from * to last 5 sts. K5.
Row 2: K5. Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear to last 5 sts. K5.”

My question: On row 2, should I K5, P3, then K15 (then P3, K15, etc) (knitting all stitches that were knitted and purling all stitches that were purled)? That is how I interpreted it. It does not look the same as when my grandmother did it. Doing it my way, the knitted and purled sections look nearly identical- it just looks like there are little glitches between the sections.

I would call my grandmother, but it’s past her bedtime.

If you look at the previous row you knitted from the back, the knitted stitches will look like purls and the purled stitches will look like knitted ones. So according to the instructions for row 2 you would K5, *P15,K3. Rep from * to last 5 stitches. K5.

Thank you so much. That is very different from what I was doing! I appreciate the prompt and helpful advice!

Wouldn’t it be k5, *k3, p15 and repeat to the last 5? The row 1 instructions would be ending "…K15. P3. Rep from * to last 5 sts. K5.
