Knitting a pattern with bulky yarn

Hi.
When knitting a pattern that calls for 74 stitches in size four yarn, is it safe to presume size 6 yarn would be 37?

Sizes 4 and 6 cover a range of gauges. You can estimate that about 37sts in #6 are close to 74sts in #4 but it would be better to compare the gauge given on the ballband for the two yarns. Even better and so more accurate is to knit a swatch yourself with your knitting tension, and see how many sts you’d need with the bulkier yarn. That way you can also see if you like the knit fabric or if you’ll like it looser or tighter.
