I haven’t tried blocking yet no! And have now frogged the back…Ive also tried knitting a Swatch with smaller 4mm needles and i do get a gauge from that which is closer to the required one… I like the appearance of the smaller stitches also but I do notice the fabric is a little stiffer. Would it be a bad idea for this project? Thank you!

I don’t think I’d personally change needle size and gauge half way through a project but I have seen comments from other knitters that they do, so it’s down to personal choice really. If you think the fabric is too stiff on the small needle go for the bigger and change the stitch count, but if you like the small stitches then go for the smaller. Keep in mind you need the gauge the same front and back so the rows and stripes line up when you seam it together.
