Knitter's Stash Toddler Jacket

Hi Everyone!
I’d like to make the Rumpelstiltskin’s Toddler Jacket in Knitter’s Stash, but I can’t for the life of me get the gauge. I have a couple of skeins of Burly Spun I’d like to use, and even with size 17 needles I can’t approach their 6 3/4 sts =4". The directions call for Drop Spindle Chenille Tape and size 13 needles. Can anyone help? I checked the errata, and the gauge is apparently correct.

If it isn’t possible to use the Burly Spun with this pattern, I’d love an equally simple toddler jacket pattern that would allow me to use it.

I’m a beginner with a couple of small projects behind me, and this looks perfect for a next one.

:?? That must be a really dense sweater to get that gauge. It doesn’t make sense to me with that size needle though. Maybe someone can figure it out. In the meantime…

I can get two stitches to the inch, but just over 1.5 … maybe chenille tape is huge? The directions also indicate that you can use two strands of worsted. I could try doubling the Burly Spun, but I think it would make the jacket stiff.

Oh yeah, 2 strands would make it so dense it would stand up by itself…

Use the 17s and see if a larger size of the pattern would work for the size you need. Take the gauge and divide into the sts for the back and front to see which is closest to the chest size you need. You probably want about 4" of ease anyway.

I’m not an advanced knitter so I can’t help much except to say that this lady seems to have experienced problems with the same pattern. Good luck, hope it works out for you.

Fast forward to last week and I had these three skeins of pink chenille and no desire to use it for a hat, a scarf or a bag. Then I remembered this little jacket and decided to check out the book again and try it in the chenille.

This one’s a little better, but I won’t be trying it a third time.

This isn’t meant to be a complaint about the pattern. I think it’s been a mix of bad luck, yarn choice, gauge and maybe the alignment of the planets or something squirrely like that.

Thanks for the link. At the very least, it seems the pattern isn’t for a beginner like me!
