Knitted Round 12 inch Doily

My son and his girlfriend bought a round small table and want me to make them a round doily from cotton wool like the dishcloth wool and I was wondering if there are any patterns out there and how you do it. Is knitting a round doily hard?? If so any patterns for a square one 12 " by 12 " ?
