Knitted hat in progress

This is my 2nd hat I’m knitting, but have had to do it about 5 times to get the sizing right. This is for my friend who asked me to knit him a hat. The first attempt was a brown hat, but it came out too big. The second, third, and fourth try was wayyy too small. I think this will be the winner. I made it all black to make it easy. Next time I’ll do a bunch of colors. Sorry if the pic is kinda blurry, I used my camera phone! (I’ll post the finished project when I’m done…should be today!)

what pattern are you using?

Looks nice!!

I’m using K2 P2 (ribbing), and using size 6 needlees. I had to adjust the sizing though from the Stitch N Bitch book. (p. 162)

THANKS!

Hi - I had similar problems knitting hats for my toddlers - most of them ended up fitting me great…which isn’t the worst thing.

I found a really good “hat math” recipe on this site that you may like.

http://www.crazyauntpurl.com/archives/2005/06/easy_rollbrim_k_1.php

It uses circular needles to knit in the round and it’s based on the size of the finished product that you want. Some great techniques in here are explained in detail (joining, knit in the round St st, decreasing)

This helped me ALOT and I hope it does the same for you.

Keep at it!

Thx so much for the great tip! I will definitely use this for my future hat projects. I love hats too. Hopefully this one will come out nice.
