Knit Sundress Pattern

Hi everyone!

I am hoping you could help me with a pattern. I would like to make this dress for my daughter:

I just wanted some clarification on the first part. It says:

“Change to B and work in St st, dec 1 st at each side every 6th row 6 times, then every 8th row 5 times - 48 (50, 52, 54, 56) sts. Work even until piece measures 13 1/2 (14, 15, 16, 16) in. (34.5 (35.5, 38, 40.5, 40.5) cm) from beg, end with a WS row.”

I understand that I have to work in stockinette (knit 1 row, purl 1 row) and then every 6th row I need to decrease 1 stitch at the beginning and end of that row.

Is it correct that every 6th row will be a purl row? What is the best way to decrease on a purl row? Should I just p2tog?

Thanks so much for your help!

It depends on which row you count the 6th row from. You’ve already knit a few rows, I’d make the first dec on a RS row, then all of them will be. Doesn’t matter if the first dec row is actually the 5th or 7th row.
