Knit On Cast On Edge?

Hey everyone,
I found this really cute pattern for a small drawstring bag that I want to try to make, but one of the steps has me very confused!

So, where she says “sew (or knit on) the cast on edge,” what does this mean? I looked up some videos of knitting on the cast on edge, and that makes sense to me…but where I get confused is, if I’m knitting in the round, how do I go back to the beginning of my work (using the same working yarn) to knit on the CO edge without messing up the project and getting the yarn all twisted up? Would I be switching all my DPNs back to the beginning of the work?

I’m not sure if my concern makes sense here, but I’m having a really hard time visualizing how this would work. I could understand doing this at the very end of the project, but not sure how it works right in the middle.

Any help would be appreciated!! (Especially if you can refer me to any helpful videos on this  )

Thanks!

The next directions help explain the “knit on the cast on edge”. You’re making a hem so you want to knit one stitch on the needle together with the stitch below it on the cast on edge.
This video shows you the idea although a turning row is used with a provisional cast on, Your directions don’t have the turning row and don’t use a regular cast on but the basic idea is similar.

Thanks for responding! I’m still super confused though…I watched the video but it only created more questions :frowning: I’m a beginner, so do you think this is too “advanced” for me? Is there anyway to do this project without doing this step?

You can just knit the bag and then turn the edge down and sew it in place.

Sure, as GG mentioned, you can turn the hem and sew. Here’s another video that may help. The first part is most like the project you’re doing.
