I’m trying to help a friend decipher an old handwritten pattern instruction for a scarf. The instructions were provided by an Australian knitting instructor who is no longer available, and the stitch pattern reads:
Row 1) after casting on 32 stitches, knit across row
Row 2) K1, knit in bottom stitch, K1, knit in bottom stitch across row
Does anyone know what “knit in bottom stitch” means? Thank you!!
No, because knitting in the stitch below the one on the needle makes an elongated stitch and the whole rib is fluffy and soft. It’s not like slipping a stitch at all, and much easier than the method you describe. Look for pictures of Fisherman’s rib or Shaker stitch.
