Knit encroachment, purl encroachment

how are these 2 things done? there is a sock pattern that calls for these. The only thing is I don’t know what a “knit encroachment” or “purl encroachment” is. Another question is, how do I do an “invisible cast-on”? Thank you.

Wow…I have no idea what the encroachment is… I’ve never seen that before. :??

I found this online:
knit encroachment
K enc (knit encroachment): sl 1 st knitwise; lift st beneath next stitch purlwise; insert L needle into both st from L, in front of R needle; K 2 tog (a slight variant of ssk).
