Kittyville Hat: A Project of Firsts!

This hat was probably beyond what I should have been doing as a beginner knitter, but I saw it and WANTED it! So, this is my first official knitted FO. I’m quite pleased with how it turned out.

It’s the Kittyville Hat from SnB. I used Rowan Cashsoft DK (a cashmere/merino/microfiber blend) in a dark red, and left off the ears and pom-poms.

This was my first time:
Using DPNs
Making an I-cord
Picking up Stitches
Making the Seed Stitch
Decreasing
Adjusting a knitting pattern (I have a very small head!)

AND…

Finishing a Knitted Project!

Here are a couple of photos:

Wow! All that for your first project! I’m impressed! And the hat looks great! Never be afraid to try something new!

Very nice!! You really learned a lot on that project. What fun. Your hat turned out very nicely. Keep up the good work.

That’s your first project??! Wow, I can’t wait to see what you’re knitting a year from now! It looks fabulous! :yay:

Thanks everyone! I actually started the ribbed scarf, but got REALLY bored and didn’t finish. Or even come near finishing LOL. So I figured, I’ve mastered knit and purl, why not just try the hat? I’ve crocheted most of my life, and I know that if I don’t really want to work on the project I’ll never finish it.

I just cast on for a sweater a couple of days ago. Hopefully I’ll have a second FO to show you all in the near future!

WOW you did a great job especially it being your first project. I so wanna make a hat like that.

wow, how courageous of you…you did a really nice job!

The hat’s great, but I love your pose while taking the picture. Very good!

Fantastic work - it looks really even and really cool  That’s how I learned too - just diving straight in and trying something out. Well done :yay:

That’s a fabulous hat! You did a wonderful job – I can’t believe it’s your first. I love the color. Can’t wait to see your sweater.

:cheering: I’m impressed!

:woot: it looks great!! I love that you thought that why not a hat… nothing will stop you knitting wise!!

I made two variations on that hat over the Christmas/New Year break for my brother and his girlfriend. I hate i-cords. Grr.

I really like how the color of the yarn turned out in the hats!

Oooh, the i-cord…I didn’t mind that part much at all, but my big hate is adding fringe…ugh :).

That’s your first project?! Way to go! It looks wonderful

Im very impressed and it really suits you x

Wow! That’s a lot of firsts! Nicely done!

It is great looking. I did an ear flap hat for my grandson and it came out great. You picked a great color for it to!

That’s fabulous! :cheering:

I liked the colors too, but what really matters is whether or not the person the each respect hat was intended for liked it.

What did you think of the pattern? I made adjustments (as you can see), and I thought the ear flaps according to pattern could’ve been better.
