Kitten's name

Got a new kitty (feral) today and I need a name for her please. I managed to get her to follow me home this evening with a tin box full of cat food. She’s scared to come in the house but otherwise she’s very friendly and likes affection. Hope that she’s still here tomorrow morning. I also have another cat outside and she’s not happy at all about having a new friend. Hope they’ll eventually learn to get on and play together occasonally.

She’s a grey tabby in colour with no special features or markings.

Thanks for you help.

Kiki, Hannah, Puff, Juliana, Samantha, Dusk, or Yarnmeister. LOL!
What do you think?

How about just Gray/Grey? :cheering: for kittens!

We have a cat named Boo. How about that one?

How about Sesame Chicken?

 :out:

Mason! What kind of name is that, FOR A KITTEN???!!!

Ummm, Chinese?

Ugh. Tabby’s aren’t Chinese!

Why does that matter? It’s a cat! :teehee:

Do you have a picture of the kitty? Might help.

As it is a gray kitten, you could name it Flint.
Or Nimbus (low level, gray colored raincloud), or Shadow.

Is Kitty a she or he?

I like Shadow.

I like the name Mija (meee-ha) It’s spanish for my darling daughter. Mijo is spanish for darling son.

Dennis the Menace’s cat is named “Hotdog” :roflhard:

I had a hard time naming our found kitty. We finally decided on Emmitt. I had thought for a long time that Toonces would be it since we had Binky and he came to us with a name. I just didn’t have the heart to change it. And Toonces didn’t seem to fit this new one. I probably waffled for 3 weeks before I picked one
Since we had the luxury or choosing, it just had to be right.
I also thought about:
Meatball (bad idea to suggest that from the list to DH )
Poopfoot (for obvious reasons, litter box issues)

For the most part, his name, well…both their “first” names are "KITTY !!! "

I gave my kitties people names. My sister came up with Betsy’s name, and she is such a princess that the royal Elizabeth fits her. Walter was named after Sir Walter Raleigh.

What about Claire (if it’s a girl cat)?

Then there’s TS Eliot’s take on the issue:

The naming of cats is a difficult matter,
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m mad as a hatter
When I tell you a cat must have three
different names.

First of all, there’s the name
that the family use daily,
Such as Victor, or Jonathan,
George or Bill Bailey–
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names
if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen,
some for the dames;
Such as Plato, Admetus,
Electra, Demeter–
But all of them sensible everyday names.

But I tell you,
a cat needs a name that’s particular,
A name that is peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he
keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers,
or cherish his pride?

Of names of this kind,
I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quazo or Coripat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellyrum–
Names that never belong
to more than one cat.

But above and beyond
there’s still one name left over,
And that is the name that you will never guess;
The name
that no human research can discover–
But The Cat Himself Knows,
and will never confess.

When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought,
of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

Thanks guys, love the poem.

My husband thought of Reli (short for Rachael in Arabic), my neighbour said Tony and I thought of Cuddles - but that’s my friend’s cat’s name.

I wanted to send a picture of her but she’s just a plain average street cat. I will boast her off to everyone as soon as she gets some meat on her skinny bones.

cftwo, that poem made my eyes watery :aww:
Tamar, just look at her for a day and watch her ways and her name will come to you…

If it’s a boy, how about Steely Dan? You know, ‘steel’ for the grey bit and ‘Dan’…well no reason for that really.

Don’t mind me. It’s 1:20am and I’m shattered but can’t sleep :sleepy:

I’ve always been partial to names from Greek mythology (most of my critters have been named after the muses) or favorite musicians (the one in the kitty porn photo to the left is called Buffett). Think of something you love, watch for the personality to emerge, and a name will come to you

Yoda?? :roflhard:

How about Moggie?

Moggy or moggie (plural moggies) is an affectionate term for a domestic cat, but is also used as alternative name for a mongrel or mixed-breed cat whose ancestry andpedigree are unknowof this mixed ancestry and free-breeding.
