King Cole pattern 5648

I was on this forum before with a question about the same pattern, which I was thankful was answered.

Now I have another problem. I had knitted a huge amount of the pattern when I found I made a mistake as I had the two halves of the cardigan on opposite sides, i.e. the right sleeve was ending up in the bottom of the cardigan.
In frustration I threw the lot aside snd have just now started to try and finish. I will put up pictures here of where I am at on the pattern and what my project looks like now.

I need help as to which way I should proceed. Do I start from top of main piece or with the right front. Many thanks for any help

You’re knitting the largest size?
Start with the main piece with the RS facing. You’ll be knitting up the back of the sweater (138sts for the largest size) from the hem to the shoulder. Then join in the sts on the right front (again the RS is facing you), make the increase and knit across those front sts from the shoulder to the bottom hem of the right front. After you’ve knit the given number of rows work the side shaping and then knit the sleeve. I assume there are cast offs on each side for back and right front leaving only the sleeve sts to work.
I love the yarn and colors you’re using!

Thanks for that. I’m knitting the 4th size, not 5th which is the largest.
I’ll try what you say and hope it will work out!!

Very frustrating as I regularly knit Aran cardigans snd have no prob with reading the patterns. This pattern says ‘knitted in one piece from cuff to cuff’. This is not true!!

Kind regards

Sorry was just going to start and see the right front has one end which I take it, is meant to be the right neckline to match the left (as per photos).

Questions
1/ Do I knit up the main piece so that I am knitting up towards the neckline?
2/ When I continue across the right front stitches, do I start with the side with the increased stitches or the straight side?

Thanks

Gaggy

Yes, bit of a come-on to say “one piece”. I’ve knit similar sweaters which are fun to work but there’s always some fiddling at the neck. It’s worth it. The sweater looks so beautiful so far.

Will you look at my post a minute before yours please

OK, it may be that the easiest way to do this is to lay the sweater out flat and place the right front where it should go.

It should look approximately like this where the arrows show the direction to knit, first the back then the right front. The RS of the fabric is shown and the little line of dashes are the sts on the needles.

Yes, you’re knitting the main piece up from hem to neckline. The increased sts are probably the neck so you want to continue from the back onto the neck. The diagram that I drew attempts to show the curve of the neck with the increased sts.

Thanks so much. Finally finished. Only prob was the button holes were reversed so I have an extra on the top. Picture attached. Probably could have knitted a much smaller size though it’s very comfy.

I couldn’t have done it without you so thanks sincerely

Wow, that is so lovely and lovely on you. You chose a beautiful color combination yarn. Enjoy wearing it!

It’s a real “ladies who lunch” cardigan isn’t it? Now, you need to go out for a fabulous lunch and show it off to everyone.
Lovely.
