I have been knitting since I was 7 year olds but I am having issues understanding what this King Cole pattern is wanting for the sleeve.
It says work rows 1-6. So I have done that. To start the cable and to increase the arm width. The increases are done via m1.
Then it says after working rows 1-6 you are to repeat it, for 72 rows. Easy enough. But then it stipulates to increase at 2nd and 5th rows at the end and to not increase as per the previous 1-6 rows. So do I stop doing the m1’s? Cause the numbers aren’t adding up. I am working the smallest pattern size.
Keeping continuity of patt as set work 72 rows Inc 1 st at each end of 2nd and every foll 5th row.
So, yes, stop doing the m1 that is listed in the 6 row repeat, for the smallest size there was one each end of row 3 but not on row 6 as the smallest size says do it zero times. Just row 3.
After this you need to work 72 more rows, call the next row, row 1, the increases are on row 2, then 7, 12, 17, 22, 27, 32 and so on (every 5th row).
The pattern shows the placement of the m1 which is one stitch in from the edge so accommodate this in your pattern. Stitch markers either side of the cable panel will help with keeping continuity as the stitch count changes.
You will need to keep track of the 6 row repeat and the 72 rows you’ve been asked to work.
I hope this helps
Please could you delete the second photo, the pattern instructions, as it breeches copyright to post large portions of a pattern, a line or two to get help is fine and usually all that is needed. You can click the little pencil icon to edit your post.
Thanks.
Hi,
So I am trying that calculation with the increase and it will not achieve 102 sts. From my current 70 sts. If I increase at every 2nd row and then every following 5th row I only get an extra 26 sts. Where I will need 32sts. Where would the extra stitches be coming from?
The 72 rows begin after you have already completed the 6 row pattern once.
Just check (i no longer have the pattern words exactly as written), but I think you began with 70 sts and increased each end row 3, so 72 sts. Is that right?
72 sts
Then another 72 rows increasing on row
2
Then every 5th, rows
7 12
17 22
27 32
37 42
47 52
57 62
67 72
That’s 15 increase rows, 2 increases on each increase row (1 each end). Total 30 increases within this 72 rows.
72 sts + 30 = 102 sts
