Keyhole Scarf question

I made a scarf last week with a buttonhole to pull one end through. The hole is horizontal and am wondering how to make a vertical slit? Can this only be done working with two balls of yarn? (Like the pattern in Stitch n’Bitch)

i have never done this one so not sure what direction this one comes out when done…there’s a video clip included! :slight_smile:

Thanks. I think that one also comes out horizontal. I found another one on DIY Network from “Weekend Entertaining” called the Windy Weekend scarf. I think this is how I will do my next scarf.
