I have finished the body of the sweater (the pattern is posted on the kelbourne woolens website) and now I just have the sleeves. I have the live sleeve stitches on a stitch holder and the instructions say to, “Place the 57(65) sleeve stitches on straight or circular needles and pick up 9sts from the cast on stitches. Work back and forth in lace pattern.” My question is - how would you work the sleeve without knitting in the round? And how can I adapt the lace pattern for circular knitting. I’ve tried to knit flat, but this is impossible because there’s not enough slack in the knitting - I can’t even fit all the stitches on a straight needle without stretching (and coming close to ripping) the work! Please help!
Just don’t join. You may have to use 2 circs or just knit part of the sts on one, pull on the circ to loop it so part of the sts are on the flexible cord, then finish knitting the rest of the sts.
What’s the kelbourne woolens site? A direct link would be better. Is the lace pattern just purl on the WS rows or does it also have the pattern on it? If it’s just purl, you would only have to knit those sts.
You could use double-pointed needles to knit the sleeves in the round. Since all the rows between the actual lace pattern rows are knit, you’d have to purl what would have been the ws rows.
Once you get past the first few rows knit flat, you’ll find it easier going if you decide to do it that way.
Thank you, both - I’m trying it on dpns and it seems to be working alright.
