Keeping pattern after increase

#1

Hi all my pattern is asking me to increase one stitch at beginning of next and each alternate row. The row I increase on is sl1, *p1,k1b repeat from *to last stitch k1. I understand how to do all that row BUT if I increase one at the beg what do I do as my first stitch?

Welcome!
I like to keep the edge stitch as the slip stitch and work in the increase one stitch in from the edge. Then you would work the increase that the pattern recommends or your favorite increase and work it as a knit stitch. On following alternate row, work the inc stitch as k1b. The next inc stitch would be a purl.
Make sure your pattern wants the increase only at the beginning of these rows and not at each end.
Can you give us a pattern name or a link to it?
