Keeping continuity of pattern

Can anyone help with keeping continuity of this pattern.

Its an 8 row eyelet pattern

i start with 17 stitches pattern says work 8 rows in eyelet pattern keeping patt correct inc 1st at each end of next row, then foll 10 th row 1 times more. should then have 27 sts. Work 5 rows sraight. work 4 more rows in patt, thus ending with a wrong side row . cast off.

1st row k1, k2tog,yf, k4, k2tog, yf, rep from to last 2 sts k2.

2nd row and every alt row purl. 3rd row knit

5th row k4, k2tog, yf, *k4, k2tog, yf, rep from * to last 5 sts k5.

7th row knit 8th row purl.

would appreciate any help as new knitter with no one to ask thanks

You’re increasing at each end of the next row and then the 10th row which will be 4sts added. There should also be directions for 3 other increase rows so that you have a total of 10sts increased (from 17 to 27sts). When you have enought sts on either end of row 1 or row 5, add in the k2tog yf which will continue the eyelet pattern on the edge sts including the new increase sts.
What is the name of the pattern and is there a link that you can provide?

Hi Salmonmac
Pattern is for a dolls or prem baby jacket ,hat and leggings set. (Teddy knitting yarns 7139 ) sorry dont have a link, but here is what it says for the sleeves.
I am knitting the smallest size. There is a picot edging which i have done, then patt says , starting purl, work 3 rows in st st inc 0 (2-0) sts evenly across last row. 17(23-23)sts. Work 2(8-4) rows in eyelet patt as given for 2ND SIZE of back and fronts. Keeping pat correct inc 1 st at each end of next row, then foll 8th(10th-6th ) row 1(1-3) times more, 21(27-23) sts. Work4(5-7 ) rows straight. Work 3(4-4) more rows in patt, thus ending with a wrong side row. cast off
The 8 row pattern is
1st row: k3 (1-1), k2tog, yf *k4, k2tog, yf rep from * tolast 4(2-2)sts k4(2-2)
2nd and every alt row purl
3rd row knit.
5th row: k6 (4-4), k2tog,yf, k4, k2tog, yf, rep from to last 7(5-5) sts. k7 (5-5).
7th row: knit
8th row Purl
you will notice that i have now given full patt instructions as I think I gave wrong number of stitches before as patt confused me as i am doing smallest size then it says follow 2nd size. Any help you can give would be much appreciated

I’ve underlined the numbers that apply to your size, the smallest. The pattern is set up as given for the 2nd size but the numbers that you want to follow are for the first (smallest size). So you start with 17sts and increase at each end on the next row and then the 8th row for a total of 4sts increased to 21sts. Does that help or is there something else that is causing problems?

thanks for sorting the size out for me, but what I am also stuck on is how to keep the continuity of the pattern as i am adding extra stitches at either end of 3rd row which is a knit row . How does this change the pattern for row 5 as i would then have 19 stitches .
Do i start the " knit 6 " 1 stitch earlier , If I do, then everything else moves along 1stitch earlier is this correct?

The pattern picture shows the eyelets form a diagonal pattern. It would be so much easier if who ever invented the patterns showed how the rows changed once stitches were increased or decreased instead of just saying "keeping the continuity of the pattern " thats got to be the most difficult bit !!

i am only a novice but I am determined to get the hang of this !!

They could write out all the changes for all the sizes but that would make the pattern 4 times as long and would have infomation in there for all sizes which the other sizes don’t need. Usually, you can just keep the new sts in stockinette stitch until there’s enough for another pattern repeat.

You’re only adding a stitch every 8 rows twice I think so that’s only 4 more altogether and if you just do 2 more sts in knit at the beg and end of rows 1 and 5 it won’t mess up the pattern.
