K8, P8, K8 rib help (with pic)

I am trying to:
Row 1: K8, P8, K8.
Row 2: P8, K8, P8.

to make a Robin Scarf: http://www.dailyknitter.com/robin.html

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I think it might have to do with putting the yarn when knitting to the right…and to the left when purling…

but…it only messes up the first stitch when changing from knit to purl and vice versa.

Thanks in advance!

It looks like you might be bringing your yarn up under your knitting. When you switch from knit to purl, you should bring your yarn from the back, over the top between your needles. When switching from purl to knit, you should bring your yarn to the back between your needles at the top.

Plus I’m seeing three groups of 4, but the pattern says 8 doesn’t it? Maybe I’m seeing it wrong.

It could also be twisted. Try untwisting the stitches on your needle and see what happens.

Yup, looks like you’re doing what I was doing before  Think of your needles as a drawbridge…Ingrid was right on the money as usual! From knit to purl, bring the yarn between the needles from back to front…from purl to knit, take the yarn between the needles from front to back!

Thank you ! You were both absolutely right!
