K7, bind off 6 sts, k1 – 6 sts bound off, 8 sts rem.

I’m so confused as to what I should be doing here. This is row 7 of the Daphne mini shawl I bought off of Ravelry. Let me know if there is any more info I should give. This is my first post, so I don’t know what is most helpful.

I’ve knit the first 7, binded off the 6, now I just don’t know what I need to do

Welcome to KH!

Rows 1-8 are the border lace pattern. The shawl starts with a garter tab however and the lace pattern is then worked in Row 1 under Shawl Body. Did you start with the garter tab (Pattern Begins) or begin with the Lace Border?

Here’s directions for a garter tab in case you need them:

Once the starting garter tab has been worked you go on to the Shawl Body and then work the Lace Border at the end of Row 1.

I have completed the garter tab and worked the first 6 rows ending up with all the proper amount of stitches  it is row 7 that is giving me pause (autocorrect put up pain, which is also correct :joy:) I knit the 7 stitches and cast off the six, that is where I’m getting lost :disappointed:

OK, good. Row 7 is a RS row. Turn and work Row 8 of the border lace (knit across the 8sts) then continue with the main body of the shawl as writtn. There will be an open space between the one stitch leftover from the cast off and the 7knit sts but that’s likely part of the lace pattern.

It works! Thank you so very much for talking me off the ledge. I do believe that it could have been written clearer but I’ll stick with it. Thanks again

I’m glad you have it working! Please do post a photo when you finish. We love to see finished projects.

Patterns often make assumptions, even patterns by well-known designers! But that’s where this Forum comes in. Glad you found us!

Thank you! I started over a few times and just didn’t feel like it was coming out right, I’m obviously missing something :joy:, so I moved on to something else as it is a Mother’s Day present and I need to get it in the mail. When I’m off bed rest and back to my knitting group I might get one of them to try it with me to see if we can figure it out/write it in a way that I can understand.

I’m sorry to hear about the bed rest. That can be frustrating no matter the cause.
Yes, having someone work with you is the best way to try and solve this. It may be something very simple that we’re just not seeing.

One thought: the last stitch of the k7 in this row is going to be part of the bind off.

For Row 7 on the lace border: K7, then start the bind off by k1, pass the 7th stitch of the k7 over the next stitch and continue to bind off until there is one stitch on the left hand needle. Knit one.

The lace border will have 6sts, a gap at the bound off sts and then 2sts (the one stitch leftover from the bind off plus the final K1). That’s the correct number to work row 8 and then begin row 1 again.
