K1p1 rib using 2 colors?

Hello!

So I noticed in a baby sweater that I’m knitting that when you do a 1x1 rib, the p stitches kind of pull back and disappear when it’s not stretched. My question is: If I did all the purl stitches in a contrasting color, would they still disappear, being visible mainly when stretched? Or would switching between yarns every stitch change how it behaves?

Hope that makes sense. Thanks, knitters! I’m new on the forum and look forward to learning from you all!

That’s the nature of 1x1 ribbing especially with a very springy yarn. As you mentioned, when the sweater is worn, the ribbing stretches out so the purl sts become visible. You could use 2 colors and that would make the purls show up, if that’s what you’d like or you could stay with the single color and go to 2x2 ribbing which is slightly less stretchy.
