(k1, yo, k1) in same stitch

I am having trouble with this stitch even though is seems very easy. I have looked all over the internet trying to find something that will explain this stitch to me. Also, when a pattern starts off with row #1 reading as WS, do I start as I always would, or does that pattern require double ended needles in order to turn it around correctly?

Thanx for any and all help.

Monica

When a pattern gives R 1 as the WS, it’s just telling you the first and all odd numbered rows will be on the WS; usually it is the even numbered ones. It’s just for your information, you don’t have to work it differently.

To do k1, yo, k1 in one stitch, it’s a double increase; knit 1, then don’t slide it off your needle, wrap the yarn around the right tip for the yo, then knit into the stitch again. You now have 3 stitches instead of 1.
