[k1, p1, k1, p1, k1] into double yo

Hi all, I have looked for an explanation for this and think there isn’t one on line. I am starting a knitting pattern for the Putney Shawl by Angela Tong, which is in Knitscene Accessories 2012. Although I am just starting, after knitting a garter stitch triangle and then a mesh pattern border, there is an edging which I am not sure how to do. First, 4 rows of the edging are garter stitch; then comes the edging (which does have holes in it):

Row 5 *K2tog, [yo] twice, ssk; rep from * to end.
Row 6 *P1, [k1, p1, k1, p1, k1] into double yo, p1; rep from * to end.

I understand Row 5. Then in row six, I am not completely sure how to k1, p1, k1, p1, k1 into the double yarn over (yo). Do I k1, p1 into the first yo loop and then k1, p1, k1 into the second?

If someone could help me with this I would really appreciate it. saludos, Betania

The easiest way to do this may be to let the first yo drop off the needle. Then you are left with one big yo on the left needle. K1, p1, k1, p1, k1 into that yo.
If you find it easier however. to divide up the series of knits and purls in the parts of the double yo, then go ahead and do it that way.
Very pretty shawl:
