Justifying a yarn porn purchase

I just got back from a trip to upstate NY, and saw Great Adirondack Yarn Company’s Sierra alpaca in a store in Watkins Glen (for sample colorways, check out http://yarn.com/webs/0/0/0/0-1001-1294-1323/0/1091/3177?gclid=CLvo6JHinYwCFQKsIgoduim8zw).

I couldn’t justify to my DH buying one $50 hank of yarn, even though it is 600 yards’ worth. I couldn’t even figure out what I’d do with 600 yards of yarn, so I didn’t buy it. (I’m a fairly inexperienced knitter, mostly scarves, shawls and simple hats.)

But I keep dreaming about it, and I’m thinking about ordering it online anyway. But I don’t want it to just end up in my stash with all my other purchases of passion.

What would you make with Sierra?:??

I looooove Great Adirondack yarns! I have some that I bought at Webs over a year ago that is just to pretty to knit with.:rofling: I will use it one day, though. I recently bought some of their silk/merino and it’s breathtaking.

You could make a lovely wrap with one skein, or bite the bullet and buy 2 for a sweater. Or buy 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7. . . .

You do get the Webs discount, remember.

I LOVE them, too, Ingrid. I also have some that I don’t want to knit with. I might not like it as much in a sweater as I do in the skein.

But, you could make a nice sweater with 2 or 3.

It looks like it would be scratchy. I’ve never used alpaca, although I have used mohair. I found it to be way too scratchy for a scarf. comments?

I can’t offer an opinion on the exact yarn she mentioned, I just love Great Adirondack yarns. Love them.

I’ve never met a scratch alpaca. The alpaca I have from GA yarns is the softest thing I’ve ever felt.:inlove:
