Just bought a wonderful knitting bag

and thought I’d share the information about it. I ran across this Ravelry forum thread entitled “Great Bag”, where a member had posted photos of the bag she purchased and was letting others know that the bag(s) are on sale on Joann.com. The bag is a JanetBasket Eco bag. The pictures she (and now others) have posted were really interesting. After debating it for a while, I decided to order bags for myself and my sister because the bags are 50% off at Joanns.com right now. Well, I just received mine and it is amazing! Since I can now verify the wonderfulness of this bag, I decided to share here. This thing is really huge (18" x 12" x 10") and it is incredibly well made. It is made of medium weight canvas and is lined. Has a LOT of pockets for yarn, notions, and some of the styles have a large pocket that runs the length of the bag where you can store patterns so they don’t get creased. If you’re in the market for a new bag, I’d recommend looking at the Ravelry thread that has pictures of the bag and reading other folks comments. I don’t know how long the Joann’s sale will be going on but half-price just makes the bag even nicer. And before you ask…no, I do not work for Joann’s or JanetBasket, LOL. I’m just really happy with my new acquisition. And BTW, so is my sister with hers!

The things I love about the bag:

 1. THE PRICE! My bag was only $17.49US (regularly $34.99) and since I used a free-shipping coupon, I feel like I got a steal-of-a-deal!

 2. It has a metal frame that supports the zipper so the bag stays open and doesn’t fold in on itself. You can open it, put it by your chair and it will stay that way!

 3. It has rubber feet so the bottom of the bag stays clean and the canvas material is not being constantly abraded so the bag will last.

 4. It is HUGE so you can store all your wips, patterns, needles, and notions, etc. I currently have in mine my two knitpicks needle binders, my basspro double worm bag which is what I store my notions in (it is about the size of the two binders together), 4 wips in gallon-size Ziploc bags, 6 skeins KP Comfy worsted (small skeins), and 2 skeins KP Brava worsted (large skeins), and it isn’t full yet.

 5. My bag has rings to which you can attach a shoulder strap. Some of the bags come with the rings and some don’t (the shoulder straps have to be purchased separately). If you go to the JanetBasket.com site, you can see which bags come with the rings for the shoulder strap.

 6. The bag is versatile. It doesn’t look like a “knitting bag”. It could be used as an overnight bag or even a diaper bag (because of all the pockets).

 7. It can be closed so you don’t find little “surprises” in there after the grandkids visit. (Mine are always dropping little toys (cars, balls, etc.) in my now former knitting bag.) Also, it has two closure methods. One method lets you zip it closed into a rectangle. If you want more protection (or if you are carrying it), you can close it in a triangle. I’m not explaining it well. Go look at the pics and you’ll see what I mean.

You’re right. That IS a beautiful bag. Which color/pattern did you get?

Enjoy!

We got the Blue Floral and the Black w/Red Trim.

At that price, I’m interested. Do you still have the free shipping code? I saw they have free shipping on $50 but I cannot cannot cannot spend that much at JoAnn. I shouldn’t even look. I won’t look. I’m not going to JoAnn.com…OK I lied. I’m going to JoAnn.com.

The code I used was good only through 2/10/2013. However, they sent me a coupon with the bag for free shipping on orders of $35. That code is AQYU072. Hope that helps.

Thanks. It looks like it should work, I may have to order 2. Shipping for one looks to be about $6.95 so the 2nd would only cost about $7. See? I shouldn’t have looked! LOL These do look like great bags.

I just tried to use a 40% off coupon on sock yarn and it took 40% off the regular price of the bag which made it more expensive and left the sock yarn at full price. I’m not happy with JoAnn right now. :hair:

I’d email them right away!

Thanks, Jan, I just emailed them via their “Contact Us” on the site. I can’t tell how long the bags will be on sale either.

SHIP14 will get you shipping for $2.14 through 2/14, no minimum order either.

I finally got one ordered, the Blue Floral. Thank you so much for alerting me to it, I haven’t gotten a bag because I couldn’t afford one that looked like it was worth having.

The whole nightmare with the JoAnn site and no response from customer dis-service, along with the fact that the site is hard to use makes me think I might not order from them again. The price of the bag was the only reason I went ahead and placed an order this time, plus the free shipping because I added a drying rack I need to my order. Ugh! When my order is shipped, I’m sending them an email telling them how displeased I am. I won’t email them before it’s shipped for fear they’ll “misplace” something. I’ve ordered from JoAnn before and don’t recall it being so bad. I hope others don’t have the same miserable experience I’ve had with them.

I thought I should come back and let you know I got my bag and love it! It’s great, big enough for a sweater and a small project to work on for a change of pace or while I mull over a problem with the bigger project, lots of handy pockets, and I have a strap that I can use for a shoulder strap on it, I found it before I ordered one. I throw in my small purse and I’m good to go!

Nice knitting bag. I love to knit a replica one. But I started knitting and the only thing I have done so far is a scarf LOL Would like to try knitting a simple bag for myself. i found a plain design one from shopfromshop.com. Just starting with it!

Hi, spenser. It’s great you’re getting started on a bag. We love seeing what people are working on so if you want to post photos, do.

This is an old thread and if you need to ask a question or something, it would be best to start a new one. Happy knitting!
