Just a little sock help

I have been knitting all kinds of socks for over two years, but I do have an issue that I can’t find a suggestion to. Probably kind of weird, but here goes. This only happens with the stockinette part of the sock, not the cuff ribbing. I usually use 5 needles but am doing my first pair of socks on 4 needles instead of 5, which may solve the problem I don’t know, but I have problems with ladders down my socks where the needles come together. I am left handed and knit left handed not continental, but other than that knit a sock like everyone else just am trying to find a solution to this. Do I just need to tighten up when I knit the first stitch off each needle every round? TX

I usually do increase the tension slightly on the first st of a dpn in order to avoid a ladder. You could also try moving the placement of sts around the needles so that the split between needles doesn’t always occur at the same sts. For myself, I like 5 needles better than 4 just because there seems to be less pulling at the joins between the needles.

Thanks, I guess great minds think alike. After I posted I thought maybe if I move the stitches around so the same one isn’t always the first on the needle it would solve my problem! lol
